Prayer

Saturday, August 14, 2009

It has been a year since I posted here. Okay, I've got all kinds of excuses, but, I will not bore you with those.

In my training I have been asked to develop a prayer for use in my daily rituals. I did so and have used it less than I needed to. My teacher, Brave Eagle Soaring, asked me to revisit the prayer this week and in doing so I realized that maybe others could benifit from it as well. So here it is. Feel free to use it if you like.

Creator, thank you for the opportunity to walk this Earth, and for the lessons you have provided.

Thank you for the opportunity to follow a spiritual path and for a teacher to show me that path.

Please help me to open up to hear your words, to see what you wish to show me, and to know what you would have me know. Help me to remember that which I have forgotten and to learn what I need to learn.

Help me to be a light that will assist others in finding their path.

For those interested this is the season of Coyote.

While many indigenous groups consider Coyote a trickster, and he is that, he brings growth to everyone. He is sometimes Creator, and sometimes a sacred clown. His powerful song can bring men freedom, or can curdle their stomachs with fear. For those who love life, Coyote brings the gift of trust.

Coyotes are teachers but not in the way most people would expect, he teaches through folly and misdirection. He shows us our shadow side and makes us laugh at the same time. He is not beyond shocking someone, if that is what it takes to get them to wake up. But Coyote is trying to get you to take an honest look at your own actions.

Coyote as a clown reminds us to laugh at ourselves and our problems. Being tricked into a situation that causes us to see ourselves from a different perspective can seem very tough medicine. When we learn to laugh at the situation (which may take a bit of time) we are truly on the path to healing.

With Coyote, nothing is sacred until everything is.

May your path be paved with flowers, your face filled with warm breezes of spring and your heart filled with joy.

Until next time.
